About the Program

This program takes a proactive approach to managing your own mental health, exploring the science behind stress and burnout and the steps we can take to look after ourselves and others. The hands-on content takes the approach of ‘fitting your own oxygen mask first, before helping others’. Staff learn evidence-based strategies and tools to cope better with pressure and stress, improve mental resilience, and support their own and their coworkers’ mental wellbeing.

Nick, SANE Ambassador
So if I reflect back on where my journey on mental illness started, I wasn’t aware at the time that I was starting to deteriorate and that I was becoming mentally unwell. I think what happened is that it was a stage of life that I was at. So, I was a new parent. I had a young daughter of 18 months, coming up to the birth of my son. We’d not long taken on a mortgage, our first mortgage. My wife was out of work because of the childrearing phase, so we had one income. Being a parent is a stressful occupation, and you add that to the workplace. Relatives becoming ill. They’re all stressful events and they accumulate. So, I think it’s probably those things I didn’t have in my life before that came into my life. As joyful and as profound as they are for wellbeing, they also carry with them an element of stress. I think added to the top of that was that I was bullied. And I had thought that I would have the resilience to be able to deal with that situation.
